Prof Philip Babatunde Adebayo

Prof. Philip Babatunde Adebayo, an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at Aga Khan University, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, has played a pivotal role in advancing neurological education, research, and service delivery in Nigeria and Tanzania. Prof Adebayo graduated from the University of Ilorin medical school, and began teaching neurology during his residency training, shortly before he joined the faculty at Ladoke Akintola University, Nigeria, in 2011. He has attained multiple postgraduate qualifications post fellowship, one of such is the MSc in Clinical Neurology from the prestigious UCL. Currently based in Dar es Salaam, he focuses on building a multidisciplinary team for neurology education, training, and research. His interests include stroke epidemiology and care in Africa, along with addressing various neurological conditions prevalent in the region. A member of the scientific review committee at Aga Khan University, he also facilitates research training workshops and co-chairs the East Africa neuroscience committee. Additionally, he serves on the editorial board for the annual early-career scientific conference at Aga Khan University, East Africa Medical College, and acts as a reviewer for several local and international journals.

Dr Abdulwasiu Bolaji Tiamiyu

MBBS, Cert. Epid (UW Seattle), FMPC, Cert. Clinical Research (Harvard)

Dr Abdulwasiu Bolaji Tiamiyu is a renowned expert in Infectious Diseases, Tropical Medicine, and HIV care, with extensive experience in clinical research, particularly in the African context. Dr Tiamiyu earned his medical degree from the popular Ilorin Medical University, Nigeria, after which he completed his specialist training in Infectious Disease (ID) and Tropical Medicine. In addition, he has attended several short courses in Vaccinology, Epidemiology, Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. He also holds a Postgraduate Certificate from the prestigious University of Washington in Seattle. Serving as a clinical investigator at the US Army Medical Research Directorate Africa/Nigeria (USAMRDA/N) Emerging Infectious Diseases Branch (EIDB) of WRAIR, Dr Tiamiyu has led multiple trials, including FDA IND Phase 2 vaccine trials for filoviruses and Arenaviruses, therapeutic trials, and prospective observational studies. Notably, he played a key role in a Phase 2 Ad26/MVA Ebola vaccine trial in collaboration with Janssen Pharmaceuticals. Additionally, he serves as a Clinical Investigator for several projects, including the African Cohort Study (AFRICOS) and RV 466: Severe Infectious Disease, both focusing on HIV and infectious disease surveillance in Africa. He chairs the RV 466 Ultrasound protocol and leads a study on Lassa virus infection prevalence and risk factors in Nigeria. Dr Tiamiyu's dedication to public health is evident through his frontline work during the COVID-19 pandemic and his involvement in the Ministerial Experts’ committee on COVID-19 in Abuja.

Dr Chris Oyewole Durojaiye

MBBS, MPH, PGDip, MSc, DLSHTM, MRCP(UK) (Infect Dis.) FRCPath, FRCP(Glasg)

Dr Chris Oyewole Durojaiye is a distinguished Consultant Physician specializing in Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, UK. He also holds an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer position at the University of Sheffield and serves as an Honorary Consultant in Infection at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust, UK. He earned his medical degree from the University of Ilorin in Nigeria and completed his specialty training in infectious diseases and medical microbiology in Cardiff, UK. His special interests include outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy (OPAT), viral hepatitis, tropical infections as well as bone and joint infections. Dr Durojaiye actively engages in research and has authored and peer-reviewed numerous papers in the field of infectious diseases and global health. He also serves as an academic editor and editorial review board member of medical journals. He plays a pivotal role in postgraduate medical education and training. He frequently serves as an examiner for the General Medical Council’s PLAB 2 and MRCP examinations in the United Kingdom, contributing significantly to medical education and professional development. His commitment to shaping the next generation of medical professionals in infectious diseases and microbiology is evident through his active involvement in various educational and professional endeavours.

 Prof Adegoke O. Adefolalu

       MBBS, Dip HIV Man (SA), MPH, PhD, FRSPH (Lond)

Prof. Adegoke O. Adefolalu, a Clinical Epidemiologist and Public Health physician, is with the Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University in Pretoria, focusing on Measurement and Research Methods courses. With extensive experience in developing countries, he has been involved in several initiatives on Primary Health Care, Reproductive Health, and HIV/AIDS services. His expertise extends to program management, particularly in HIV/AIDS Prevention, Care, and Treatment, collaborating closely with international donors such as the US-CDC, DFID, and PEPFAR-supported ART programs in Southern Africa. Prof. Adefolalu is known for his strong analytical skills, effective communication, adaptability, and a commitment to continuous learning. His academic background includes an MBBS from the University of Ilorin, Nigeria, an MPH from the University of the Western Cape, a Postgrad Diploma in HIV Management from the College of Medicine South Africa, and a PhD in Public Health. A Fellow of the Royal Society of Public Health and a member of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine & Hygiene, his research interests include, Health Systems Research, Behavioural Aspects of Health, and Medical Education. Prof. Adefolalu actively engages in research and serves as editorial board member of medical journals. Recognized for his leadership qualities, he is dedicated to mentoring staff and students, contributing to faculty development, and community engagement initiatives.

Prof Abiodun Olumide
      MBChB, MPH, FWACP, Cert. Clinical Research (Harvard)

Prof. Abiodun Olumide is a seasoned Public Health Physician, with over 20 years of expertise in adolescent and reproductive health, cancer and infectious disease epidemiology, research, education, and consultancy. He has spearheaded various health projects across sub-Saharan Africa, collaborating with UN agencies, bilateral partners, and NGOs. Notably, he served as a consultant and principal investigator in the CLIP-Nigeria trial, funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, aimed at reducing maternal and perinatal mortality from pre-eclampsia in LMICs. Engaged in professional groups focusing on reproductive health, HIV, cervical cancer, and malaria, Prof Abiodun extensively contributes to capacity building, bespoke training, and project management. His extensive research outputs include national strategy documents, policy briefs, training manuals, and journal articles, reflecting his dedication to research dissemination. Prof. Olumide also pioneered the Basic and Applied Epidemiology courses for health managers at the Olabisi Onabanjo University and coordinates the Public Health training at Babcock University. He holds prestigious fellowships and training from institutions like the US National Cancer Institute and the Harvard Medical School.
